Hair Loss and Density
The actives with the strongest receipts for hair density are peptides, not botanicals. A biochanin-A and acetyl-tetrapeptide-3 combination raised terminal hair count 8.3% against 8.7% for 3% minoxidil over 24 weeks, with no significant difference between the two arms, in an independent triple-blind trial of 32 people with androgenetic alopecia (Lueangarun & Panchaprateep, J Clin Aesthet Dermatol 2020). Rosemary oil earned a separate head-to-head: over six months it matched 2% minoxidil on hair count in a 100-person trial of pattern hair loss, with less scalp itch (Panahi, Skinmed 2015).
What the evidence does not say
Onion does not regrow hair at a cosmetic dose. The widely cited 87% figure comes from crude onion juice applied to alopecia areata, an autoimmune condition, not androgenetic thinning (Sharquie, J Dermatol 2002); it cannot transfer to a bulb extract. Hair loss with a sudden, patchy or rapid onset is a medical matter, and a dermatologist should see it. For gradual thinning, the receipts above describe what these actives measured, at the dose the studies used.
